After Care Instructions
|
Remove the bandage after 3 to 12 hours. (Depending upon the size and location of the tattoo). Do NOT re-bandage. Using your hands ONLY gently wash your tattoo with warm water and an antibacterial soap, such as Dial (your tattoo only needs to be washed once or twice a day but this depends on what YOU expose it to daily, for example dust, dirt, animal hair. Your tattoo is a wound so try your best to shield it from anything that could cause infection!). GENTLY pat dry with a clean paper towel. NEVER use a bath towel for washing or drying until tattoo is completely healed. Apply a SMALL amount of AQUAPHOR (it's made by Eucerin and available in the body lotion or baby care isle of most stores). Make sure it is worked into the skin, there should be no glossy or wet look. Use the ointment during the first 3 days, 3 or 4 times a day. ALWAYS make sure your hands are clean before touching your tattoo. After the first 3 days, switch to a dye and fragrance free moisturizing lotion (hypoallergenic)the higher-end brands seem to work better. Apply a few times a day for the next 2 to 3 weeks. The normal healing time can be 2 to 4 weeks. Do NOT pick or scratch your tattoo. Flaking or peeling is a natural part of the healing process. (A few people may experience slight skin irritation from the constant moisture of the ointment, if this does occur stop using the ointment and begin using lotion.)
Do NOT soak your tattoo during healing. That means no baths, hot tubs, pools, etc. Keep your tattoo OUT of DIRECT SUNLIGHT while it’s healing (this includes tanning beds). After your tattoo is healed, always use sun block while in the sun, preferably 30 to 50 SPF. Remember to moisturize your skin with lotion regularly. This will help keep your tattoo looking fresh.
